Is the design Fleur De Leis ever used with five petals for a reason?

Our church has stain glass windows that were made in the early 1900’s.We were searching for an explanation for the Fleur De Leis design at the top of each window which has five petals instead of three?
sounds like the artist just wanted to play with the design
