Why do Churches have Images of Jesus who they never have seen on stained glass on the windows?

Similar to the Christmas date delima, why do so many Christians the Roman Catholic Church, Protestants even secular Christians of all kinds either support
own or acknowledge the popular image of Jesus that we see dawning churches from
1300 AD till now? The image is so embedded in multiple cultures an even sanctioned by Doctors, Theologians, Pastors, Reverends, Priest from all walks of Christianity. Is this based off the shawl of Jesus? It is clearly an Image an Idol. why hasn’t the Pope of any followers of Christ spoken out against this.
Isn’t it the duty of the body of Christ to preach the true gospel. The image it’s self supports hypocracy and is no way consistant with the word of God.
To brush the image off as a harmless representation or symbol of faith is no diferant than errecting a Golden Calf. I am well aware that his appearance should not matter. This is not the question I am asking. There is many scriptures that speak against images false idols. My curriosity is that why? Even young churches constructed in this century even this decade errect these Images of Mary and Jesus which they can not substatiate. Is this not going against the message of Jesus?
“How can you love me which you have never seen? and not love your brother which thou have seen?

Because they are guessing what Jesus would look like

And some churches even make him look WHITE. Seriously.

    ITS FUNNY

I don’t know, but they are not doing God a favor. The bible teaches that we are not to make any graven images of God. This is a commandment.

    its symbolic
also in the old days most people couldnt read so the images told stories

They are representational. As with Mary, the images are as beautiful and idealized as possible.

i think it’s funny because there’s a commandment that forbids engravings/statues of anything in heaven.

  7. Clarity says:

There have been plenty of Prophets in the Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon and even Prophets in our age that have seen Jesus Christ. There are many different styles of Jesus Christ in his young and older years of life.

    It’s representative not literal.

Every 3rd grade science textbook has pictures of dinosaurs in it.

    Representative not literal.

Every pulp paperback has the fictional detective on it.

    Representative not literal.

Every box of Aunt Jemima pancakes, Uncle Bens Rice, Frosted Flakes, Lucky Charms has a picture on it.

    Guess what they are,,,

Wouldn’t any picture or sculpture be inaccurate if you have never met Jesus or Mary personally? Most people need a reference to base their faith and beliefs on, example the Bible. A story based on real places and events with no historical accuracy provided, yet it is the highest grossing book of all time

100% right! i agree with you. as a christian i even resent nativity scenes as its surely a graven image of God! but hey people will always try and bring the ‘world’ into the church, i am sure there are dimensions of my walk that are worldly but i cant see it.

i think, its all down to revelation! either you want to know the truth on certain truths and are open to receiving it or you are not! You are not condemned for not knowing but what a waste…

prior to the printing of the bible the only way people could be taught about christianity was with drawings,
even in the catacombs during the time of persecution by the romans people drew icons and scripture on the walls so that others could believe
churches had windows put in depicting scripture so the priests could teach the congregation their faith. do you have photos at home of your loved ones, do you talk to those photos , hug them ,or do you remember what they represented in your life
